Overdose Prevention Education for Clinicians Treating Patients for an Opioid Use Disorder
Given the doubling of opioid related overdose deaths in the US over the past decade the importance of a dynamic, patient centered approach to opioid overdose risk for patients in treatment for opioid use disorder cannot be stressed enough. This brief NIDA video provides strategies for overdose prevention through identification of an individual’s risk factors, stressing the importance of treatment adherence, safety planning and overdose rescue preparation.
