Peer support connects people who have shared lived experiences. Whether support comes from a mom who has experienced post-partum depression, a veteran with PTSD, or someone in recovery from an addiction, peer support providers use their lived experience and additional training to serve as a vital part of the behavioral health care system.

This one-hour webinar will orient participants to the valuable role peer support providers play in the behavioral health care workforce. Descriptions of various state efforts to Certify Peer Support Providers, opportunities for continuing education, and an academic Certificate in Peer Support offered by Rutgers will be provided. Additionally, strategies to recruit and retain peer support providers will be described and demonstrated.
