ISSUP Egypt National Chapter was launched on Wednesday 14th June 2023, hosted by the Okasha Institute of Psychiatry, a leading institution in the provision of psychiatric care, education, research, and training. It also serves as the official training site for trainees in Psychiatry at the Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine (Egypt).
The official launch formed part of the 18th International Congress on Psychiatry in Cairo. Professor Amany Haroun delivered the keynote lecture on the theme: "Addiction Education: Past, Present and Future: The Egyptian Perspective”.
In this lecture, Prof Haroun highlighted the country’s progress in drug demand reduction, the aspirations for the future and the pivotal role of ISSUP as a facilitator in advancing the professionalisation of the national workforce.
Participating via zoom, William McGlynn from INL commended the Okasha Institute of Psychiatry for their invaluable contributions to the field of addiction and taking on the role of an ISSUP representative in Egypt.
