About the symposium

The primary purpose of the symposium is to provide a forum where researchers involved in studies on alcohol can exchange ideas about their ongoing research. The scope of the symposium includes studies of determinants and consequences of drinking, drinking cultures and patterns, social and institutional responses to drinking related harms prevention and care.

Empirical research, theoretical papers and literature reviews are welcome. Social and epidemiological studies is to be interpreted broadly, as they include research in a variety of disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, criminology, economics, history and other sciences. Papers on other forms of substance use such as tobacco and drugs are also accepted but more especially with the way they relate to alcohol use.

The symposium focuses on the discussion of papers that are pre-circulated electronically on a password-protected area on this website. Papers are presented in 10-minute segments, followed by comments from the discussants and general audience participation. Any person who submits a paper may be asked to be a discussant or chair of a session. More information on handing in abstracts and papers can be found on the abstract submission page.

Our intention as organizers is to do our best to ensure that the KBS 2021 meets its aims and offers an inspiring forum for researchers to discuss current research – also online.
