This international symposium aims to bring together Ukrainian experts and international community of mental health professionals to discuss the current state and key problems of mental health of the population during the war. War has a negative long-term impact on human mental health. Victims of war often show symptoms of depression and anxiety, psychosomatics, post-traumatic stress disorder and tendency to violence.  The presentations of the symposium speakers will focus on the main mental disorders that spread among the population during the war, the main methods of psychosocial support for vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons and people with SUD, and the assessment of the impact of deteriorating mental health on the reproduction of human capital and the economic situation.

Objective is to highlight the main challenges for society associated with the growing number of mental disorders among the population during the war and to consider ways to improve public policy and modernize mental health services in Ukraine in the context of war in order to adapt to the new needs of the population.

During the event, the panel experts will present the results of analytical research conducted within the Think Tank Development Initiative for Ukraine, implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation in partnership with the Open Society Initiative for Europe (OSIFE) with the financial support of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine.
