Sujatha Daruwo Project Sri Lanka
Introducing a project run since 2016 by the Preventive Education and Training Unit of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board of Sri Lanka. This project is called "Sujatha Daruwo" or "legitimize children" in English.
Project delivery used Universal Prevention and Treatment curriculum (UPC/UTC) teachings and children developed their knowledge, competencies and skills as preventive educators and peer mentors within their communities and wider society.
The project was funded by the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority and was delivered across extensive geographical areas incorporating the Northern and Eastern parts of the country. Total land area covered by the project was one third of the Island and modifications of the project are ongoing for further extension.
This project was successfully completed by Mr. Supun Udana and Ms. Priyadarshani Rathnayake, Education and Information Officers in the unit holding ICAP who have participated in several UPC trainings.
I am posting these reports for your ISSUP knowledge sharing programme.
