SALIS (Substance Abuse Librarians and Information Specialists) and AMHL (the Association of Mental Health Librarians) invite you to spend 3 wonderful days in the nation’s capital meeting with & learning from expert ATOD (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs) and mental health information professionals.
Our theme for this year, Capital Ideas: Revolutionary Solutions for Unconventional Times, reflects the changes in the library and information fields, including the need to continue integrating multi-disciplinary solutions to current local, national and international efforts that improve population health.
Keynote speakers include:
- Michele M. Wu, MLIS, JD, Associate Dean for Library Services at Georgetown University, Controlled Digital Lending and Copyright
- M.J. Tooey, MLS, AHIP, FMLA, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland Baltimore, Resistance is Futile: Change or Die it is
- Thomas Babor, PhD, MPH, Professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut, Addiction Science: Revolutionary Ideas for Unconventional Times
- An update on the SALIS Collection: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.
Share your research, outreach and educational initiatives with your fellow information professionals. We are still accepting poster and oral presentation submissions. The deadline to submit an abstract has been extended to March 10, 2020.
Registration is open. Rates start at $210 and include a welcome reception and lunch daily.. Library school students pay just $50/day to attend. The conference will take place at Saint Elizabeths Hospital, the first federally-funded psychiatric hospital. Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided on the first two days. Network with information professionals while enjoying refreshments at the Welcome Reception. Attendees will be provide a behind the scenes tour of the Melvin Sabshin, M.D. Library and Archives of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). The library has a collection of around 2,400 rare books, artifacts, and photographs documenting the history of psychiatry and the APA.
