31st March 2019 saw the ceremonial launch of ISSUP India. It took place during the 7th National Conference of FINGODAP, the Federation of Indian NGOs for Drug Abuse Prevention. Over 500 NGOs were represented at the event in New Delhi.
ISSUP was delighted that Joanna Travis-Roberts, Executive Director and Bill McGlynn, Advisor to INL were able to participate. Both had the opportunity to speak about the potential impact of ISSUP in India, and meet with key individuals. In attendance at the FINGODAP event were a range of Government Representatives, including the Secretary from the Ministry of Social Justice and Welfare, Ms. Nilam Sawhney. A representative from the National Institute of Social Defence spoke at both the Conference and the launch event. They are particularly interested in the potential for capacity building within the NGO workforce.
ISSUP India is hosted by SPYM: Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses. SPYM works to provide quality services within available resources which enable people to maximize their potential, increase their abilities, preserve and enhance human dignity/worth, prevent or reduce the need for services by empowering the community to sustain the programme activities on their own for their overall long term development.
