Dr. Jacqueline Anundo and Jane Ndungu from ISSUP Kenya, formed part of a joint meeting on Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) in Kenya. The meeting was held at EKA Hotel - Nairobi, Kenya with the purpose of building ATI initiatives in the country.
The meeting agenda included a discussion on ATI priority activities, an overview of the mapping of ATI practices in Mombasa and a mechanism to coordinate the ATI pilot in Kenya.
The discussion on ATI priority activities for 2024 was facilitated by Boniface Wilunda from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Dr Saade presented an overview of the mapping of ATI practices in Mombasa as the piloting county and the proposed mechanism to coordinate the ATI pilot.
The linkages of the pilot mechanism to the national steering committee was presented by the Kenya police and Kenya prison departments.
All organisations in attendance presented their way forward in terms of piloting the ATI initiative in Kenya.
ISSUP Kenya expressed their readiness for the project in the provision of technical support which encompasses data collection, data analysis and implementation support.
This was another great opportunity for ISSUP Kenya to recruit more members.
