Spotlight on ISSUP Senior Website Developer Jack Tonkin
We would like to let you know a bit more about the team working hard to help shape and grow ISSUP with a series of spotlight articles. We are kicking off this year's series by shining a light on our Senior Website Developer, Jack Tonkin.
Tell us a bit about you Jack...
How did you first get involved with ISSUP?
“I worked with Joanna who is now our Executive Director and other members of the team in another organisation previously. When ISSUP needed a website Joanna called me and asked if I could build the new site.”
What are 3 words to describe ISSUP? Ambitious, dynamic and family-oriented
What has surprised you most about working with ISSUP?
I think by now I don't feel surprised by much - there is always something new!
How do you define success?
I define success by the ISSUP website (not breaking) being something that is a positive experience for ISSUP members and the wider demand reduction community.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
If I could do another job for a day I would be a talking head on TV – a political pundit on TV or radio and put the world to rights. One day would be more than enough so I could go back to being anonymous the next day!
Do you have a favourite quote?
That would have to be, “I have a bad feeling about this” from Star Wars which is repeated through quite a few of the films! I have just started watching Star Wars series with my 5-year-old and that line did make me smile.
If you could be anyone from any time period who would it be and why?
I think now is the best time to be alive that there has ever been. I am quite happy being me but if I had to change for a day then... I don't think I would want to.
Three words to best describe you.
Cautious, thorough (I like to think things through) and spendthrifty!
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I might be the senior website developer but I am not actually the tech nerd people might expect and avoid shiny gadgets or rushing in to get new items!
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the continuous deployment for the ISSUP website and the parts of the website that I have been able to automate in adding new features to the website - seeing those changes and developments in action makes me proud.
