ISSUP Kenya, in collaboration with key partners, orchestrated a series of impactful initiatives during the National Substance Use Prevention Week, observed from the 19th to the 23rd of February 2024. The focal point of these endeavours was the creation of awareness at Kiambu National Polytechnic, specifically addressing matters related to substance use disorders.
Simultaneously, an active recruitment drive was conducted among students to encourage their membership with ISSUP. The event's successful execution was led by Jane Mwangi and Jane Ndungu, distinguished members of the Outreach and Membership Committee, with invaluable support from Dr. Virginia Nyaga, the Head of the Counselling Department at the Polytechnic and an ISSUP member.
The inaugural phase involved their active participation alongside the Principal and other dignitaries in the Opening Ceremony and tree planting exercise to mark the significance of the event. This was followed by presentations delivered to both the student fraternity and other esteemed guests, shedding light on the pivotal role that ISSUP plays as an organisation dedicated to substance use prevention and creating a network of professionals in drug demand reduction in line with the Annual Workplan. The Chapter leveraged on strategic collaboration, multifaceted events, combining awareness creation, recruitment efforts, and information sharing during the National Substance Use Prevention Week at Kiambu National Polytechnic.
