Global Drug Day: Eye Opener Launches Prevention Initiative At Orphanage

I am Margaret Kwa'ada Julius, the CEO and founder of the Eye Opener Youth and Women Foundation and the Tobacco and Substance Abstinence Club in Nigeria. My foundation has been honored with multiple awards, including the WHO WNT awards for 2021, 2022, and 2024 in the Africa region. Notably, in 2024, two out of the three awardees under the Africa region were from my Tobacco and Substance Abstinence Club. I also received the 2024 Global Prevention and SUD Training award from the Ecolink Institute of Well Being. On June 26, 2024, I expanded the Tobacco and Substance Club to Nana Berry Orphanage in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and launched 80 poems focused on SUD prevention. My foundation is the first in Nigeria to include people with physical disabilities in the SUD prevention campaign. On July 27, 2024, we graduated the first cohort of trainees from our two-year Train of Trainers program and launched an additional 20 poems for SUD treatment and  recovery patients. These 100 poems, dedicated to SUD professionals for children and youth awareness, serve as 'medicine to the mind.' To support our members and prevention educators of the Tobacco and Substance Abstinence Club, we provide special free jackets.
