The Role of Parents in Preventing Substance and Behavioral Addiction

The webinar prevention series on the role of parents in preventing substance and behavioral addiction, organized by ISSUP Indonesia and ITTC Indonesia, took place on Sunday, 16 April 2023, from 10.00-12.00 PM (GMT+7). The primary objectives of this webinar were to raise awareness about addiction and provide knowledge on prevention strategies, mainly targeting Generation Z.

The webinar attracted a significant number of professionals from various backgrounds, including medical doctors, nurses, social workers, addiction counselors, students, psychiatrists, and others. With more than 100 attendees, the event successfully brought together a diverse group of individuals who shared a common interest in addiction prevention.

The keynote speakers and their respective topics for the webinar were as follows:

1. Octavery Kamil - Risk and Protective Factors Over Substance and Behavioral Addiction Amongst Generation Z: 

Octavery Kamil presented the risk and protective factors associated with substance and behavioral addiction among generation Z. This topic aimed to provide insights into the factors that contribute to addiction vulnerability and how parents can play a role in mitigating these risks.

2. Riza Sarasvita - Communication Pattern of Parents Towards Generation Z:

Riza Sarasvita focused on the communication patterns between parents and Generation Z. Effective communication is crucial in building trust, and understanding, and providing support to prevent addiction. The speaker likely offered strategies and tips for parents to establish healthy communication with their children.

3. Kristiana Siste - Internet Addiction: A Serious Threat to Generation Z:

Kristiana Siste highlighted the issue of internet addiction, which poses a significant threat to Generation Z. The speaker likely discussed the impact of excessive internet usage on mental health and social well-being, as well as provided guidance to parents on how to address and prevent internet addiction in their children.

The webinar was highly interactive, allowing participants to engage with the speakers by asking numerous questions. This interactive approach created an active learning environment and provided an opportunity for participants to gain deeper insights into the topics discussed. The collaboration between ISSUP Indonesia and ITTC Indonesia in organizing this webinar series showcased commendable efforts to promote prevention strategies for substance use and behavioral addiction among the youth in Indonesia.
