Stigma, Family and Community

ISSUP are pleased to present the Second Session in the Webinar Series on Stigma and Substance Use. This Series has been organised as a collaboration between ISSUP South Africa, ISSUP Nigeria, ISSUP Kenya and ISSUP UK. The Second Session in the Series will be hosted by ISSUP Nigeria on the topic of 'Stigma, Family and Community'.

Presentation Outlines:

  • Nature and characteristics of substance use  stigma  in  the context of Nigeria families and communities 
  • Stigma and substance use process model 
  • What families and communities can do to destigmatize substance use prevention and treatment.

At the end of the webinar, the participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the nature and characteristics of substance use/abuse
  2. Discuss the stigma and substance use process model 
  3. Analyse what families and communities can do to destigmatize substance use prevention and treatment.

Presenters:

Dr. Ndidi Ofole, Department of Counselling and Human Development Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.

Ndidi has a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ibadan. She specializes in mental health among diverse populations.  She is also an expert in health promotion and has worked extensively with adolescents and young people in substance use prevention. She is a health coach and Currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Counselling and Human Development Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Peter Adenibukan Adenibuyan ICAP, Federal  Neuro Psychiatric Hospital  Yaba, Lagos Nigeria.

Adenibuyan Peter Adenibukun...works with Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Yaba, Lagos. He is an International Certified Addiction Professional on Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Curricular. He is a Training Provider for Colombo Plan under SOUND MIND INITIATIVE and a National Trainer. Peter has presented in many National and Global Conferences. He is an Executive member of ISSUP Nigeria Chapter. He has served in many National and International Committees.
