Presenter: Maria Mfon Ilugbuhi
Maria Ilugbuhi is a substance use prevention professional and the CEO of The Shelter Youth and Community Network; a capacity building and research organization. She holds a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is a former federal law enforcement officer who served in The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for 21 years before her voluntary retirement. While in NDLEA, she served in both the enforcement and drug demand reduction units.
Presently, Ilugbuhi is a learning facilitator, substance abuse counsellor, global trainer for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and a master trainer for The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme. She has been involved in the pioneering and implementing of many evidence-based trainings and initiatives in Africa, Asia and Europe.
She recently won an award for her excellent contributions to the implementation of the UNODC's "Response to Drugs and Related Organized Crime in Nigeria" Initiative (an EU funded Project) where she engaged with major stakeholders and key populations in law enforcement and drug demand reduction.
She is a member of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), International Society of Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Professionals (ISSUP) and other professional bodies.
