Abstract:

  • Evidence-based substance use prevention program for children and adolescents. The implementation of Planet Youth in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, Argentina - Matias Garcia Teran

The objective of this evidence-based program is to reduce the consumption rates of children and adolescents by increasing protective factors and mitigating risk factors.

Rationale: The consumption of substances and different behaviors that imply harm for children and adolescents can be understood from a contextual perspective where ineffective patterns are reinforced in relation to concepts of health.

Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional observational study was carried out. All fourth-year high school students were surveyed with the questionnaire on living conditions through the Alchemer platform, in turn, informed consent was used for parents and young people.

Results: The consumption of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana is in the low zones compared to other municipalities that participate in Planet Youth. Even so, indicators related to the health and mental health of adolescents are striking.

Conclusions: It is considered essential to generate attractive contexts so that the children and adolescents of the municipality can manage their free time more effectively. In addition to this, it is essential to generate different contexts that are promoted by adults, such as parental support, family monitoring, and substance use.
