SPR Early Career Prevention Scientists Training Programme Call for Applications
Programme Description: The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) is launching a new 2-year programme to support early-career prevention scientists with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in prevention science research. Through this programme, early-career investigators will receive advanced training on establishing a prevention science research agenda through a summer institute, webinars, and monthly mentor (virtual) meetings. Scholars will be matched with an SPR mentor(s) who will guide, train, and inspire the early career investigator.
In addition to the mentoring and training, programme benefits include travel support to the SPR meetings, SPR membership, and travel support to visit the mentor annually.
This is a rigorous and competitive programme that has the goal of assisting early-career prevention scientists in advancing their career and increasing external funding success. This is a 2-year programme, and it is expected that scholars remain actively engaged for the full length of the programme. Scholars should be prepared to submit an NIH or NIH equivalent prevention science-focused grant within 18 months of program commencement.
Eligibility: Applicants should be Early Stage Investigators according to NIH’s definition (i.e. have completed their terminal research degree or end of post-graduate clinical training, whichever date is later, within the past 10 years and has not previously competed successfully as a PI for an R01 (or R01 equivalent award) with a particular interest in prevention science. Applicants from underrepresented backgrounds in the scientific workforce will be given priority consideration (see https://diversity.nih.gov/about-us/population-underrepresented). SPR is also interested in increasing representation of those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Application Deadline: March 16, 2020 (midnight PST)
