Training Workshop on "Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral for Treatment"

The objective of this two day training workshop "Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)" was to train mental health professionals so that they could identify substance use problems, help their clients if they are at risk of substance use and to reduce, and prevent problematic use, abuse, and dependence on alcohol and illicit drugs. We believe that EBPs are cost effective and it reduces the risk of substance abuse if detected at an early stage which could save the lives of people. Few professionals in the mental health and addiction field have knowledge of SBIRT, it is because there are limited training opportunities in this EBP. We hope to train professionals from diverse backgrounds such as social workers, sociologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, general physicians, emergency staff, nurses, educationists and community workers. With their help we will be able to reach a maximum number of people to identify the problems and conduct brief interventions and make proper referrals to reduce the damage that could be due to substance use.
