It is important that people wishing to access treatment for substance use disorder are informed about the quality of care they will receive.
A new fact sheet has been developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support individuals seeking behavioural health treatments. The sheet is designed to increase awareness of the signs of a quality treatment centre. These include: a review of the accreditation of the service; the medication offered; evidence-based practices; the way in which centre involves families and helps to create support networks. It also provides advice about the three steps a person should take before going along to a centre to receive treatment.
