U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy released a seven-chapter report covering all forms of drug and alcohol addiction, including public policy recommendations for prevention and treatment. The Surgeon General's Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health adds useful context for the scope of the United States' substance use situation (more people use prescription opioids than tobacco) and reinforces the emphasis on evidence-based prevention and treatment found in the UNGASS outcome document.
