Doeki Sintra Maharaj

Currently acting in the position of Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for policy implementation, research and programme management in the Ministry of National Security.

For the past nine years Mrs. Maharaj has functioned in the capacity of Chief Probation Officer of Trinidad and Tobago responsible for the management and overall operations of the Probation Services Division. This involves planning, directing and coordinating the activities relating to the rehabilitation of probationers and victims, counselling families in crisis and enforcing conditions ordered by all Courts of law in the country. She has made significant contributions to the development, interpretation and revision of policies and procedures relating to issues in probation supervision, placement of children, matrimonial counselling, family services and other allied services.

Prior to her current engagement, she has gathered a wealth of knowledge from her 34 years experience as a Social Worker in the public sector. She has been instrumental in formulating and implementing creative initiatives to address the needs of the vulnerable populations.

Mrs. Maharaj holds a BSc in Sociology from the University of the West Indies. She has extensive knowledge of casework principles and practices with special emphasis on behaviour deviation patterns of justice-involved persons.
